7-OH and Drug Testing: What You Need to Know

If you face drug testing for work or other reasons, here’s what you need to know about 7-OH and detection.

Standard Drug Panels

Standard 5-panel and 10-panel drug tests (SAMHSA-5, etc.) do NOT typically screen for kratom alkaloids including 7-OH. They target opioids, cannabinoids, amphetamines, cocaine, and PCP.

Specialized Tests

Specialized kratom-specific tests exist and can detect mitragynine and 7-OH metabolites. These are uncommon but used by some employers and probation departments.

Detection Window

7-OH metabolites may be detectable in urine for 2–7 days after last use, depending on dose, frequency, and individual metabolism.

Best Practice

If you face drug testing, stop 7-OH use at least 7 days before the test. If kratom use is specifically prohibited by your employer or program, respect those rules. Consult your HR department if uncertain.
