Five Things to Check on Every COA

1. Lab Name and Accreditation

The lab should be ISO/IEC 17025 accredited. This is the international gold standard for testing laboratories. Look for the accreditation number and verify it on the accrediting body’s website. Any lab without ISO 17025 should raise a red flag.

2. Batch/Lot Number

The COA must show a batch or lot number that matches the number printed on your product. If the numbers don’t match, the COA may not be for the product you are holding.

3. Alkaloid Content

Look for the 7-hydroxymitragynine concentration. It should be listed in mg per serving or per unit, and it should match what is on the product label. The testing method should be HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography).

4. Heavy Metals

The COA should show results for lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. All values should be below the FDA’s action levels for dietary supplements. Testing method should be ICP-MS.

5. Microbial Results

Look for pass/fail results on E. coli, Salmonella, total aerobic microbial count, and yeast/mold. All should show “Pass” or “Not Detected.”

• COA is months or years old (should be current)
